Greetings from Class ’84 of A. Bonifacio Elementary School (ABES)!

Twenty-five years ago, back when dinosaurs still roam the earth and Sharon and Gabby were still very much in love, 521 grade 6 students from 13 sections gathered on the ABES grounds one hot March afternoon to witness a miraculous, shocking, and totally unexpected event – their graduation! That time, it was the only ‘non-violent’ way for the desperate teachers and the Mayor to finally get rid of these little terrorists and restore peace and order in ABES and in Caloocan in general.

And so the ‘unthinkable’ happened. On March 31, 1984, 521 ‘very lucky’ pupils formally bade goodbye to their nutribun days in a boring 3-hour graduation ceremony worsened by their ear-splitting rendition of Raymond Lauchengco’s “Farewell.”

You should know… you were there! 

Anyway, Batch ’84 was so notorious during its heydays that, thankfully, not one soul has actually entertained the ghastly thought of a “class reunion” for more than two decades – until one stupid batchmate of ours (whose name was withheld for fear of his life) decided to ruin everything, opened his mouth, and said, “Uy, 25th Anniversary na pala ng Batch ’84! Eh kung mag-Grand Reunion kaya tayo bago man lang magunaw ang mundo?”

Believe it or not, majority of our batchmates also thought that this is actually a great idea! That’s why come Nov. 28 at exactly 7 p.m., the batch will meet again (God help us!) after 25 long years to celebrate its Silver Anniversary with an ‘80s-inspired Grand Reunion to be held at the PNR Training Center in Caloocan City.

The core group/reunion committee is currently in the thick of preparations to make sure that this 25th Reunion of Batch ’84 will be a great and successful one. There will be lots of surprises and, of course, plenty of food, drinks and booze for everyone! We are also inviting some of our former ABES teachers (if they’re still alive) and other personalities as guests. There will be a thanksgiving mass, plus tributes, games, raffles, dancing, and… basta madami pa, promise! But all these wouldn’t be possible without your much needed support!

Please coordinate with our acting secretary, the great Guia ‘Ms. Japan’ Cruz ( 0921.5930301 / 0927.2465094 ), or the two ‘hunks’ (Marcelino Cristobal, President of ABES84 & Louie Navarro, Chair of Organizing Committee) regarding your pledge/contribution.
